Patent Granted for BioFlora's Algae Products

Aug 20, 2014
Global Organics® Group, an international, integrated life sciences company, officially received a signed and sealed patent for its exclusive algae growth and concentration process from Deputy Director Teresa Stanek Rea of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This patent, which was first filed in November of 2010, relates to the proprietary process for growing and concentrating algae with minimal harm to the algal species. BioFlora, a division of Global Organics, realized that algae were an emerging technology, and could be one of the most promising long-term sustainable sources of nutrition for the agricultural industry. What makes algae such attractive organisms are the large number and wide variety of benefits associated with their biological composition. Nearly all of these benefits stem from the fact that these organisms have evolved over billions of years to produce and store energy, and they do this with great efficiency. Through research and development, we discovered an improved method to grow and concentrate algae by perfecting a revolutionary growth medium as a nutrition source and stabilizing a unique aqueous solution of algae for commercial application. One important advantage of this invention is that the algae remain viable after they are harvested. Another significant factor is that the growth medium used improves the quality of the algae during the concentrating process. Such improvements have been noted as increased lipid production and increased native protein yields. This patented process is applied mainly to our agricultural product line, to support the rising need for a natural nutrition source in agriculture. BioFlora utilizes this method as a base material for its organic products, GOgreen® and IsoGreen®. GOgreen has been proven to increase soil aggregation, soil structure and promote sodium mitigation in addition to improved nutrient uptake. IsoGreen is a proprietary blend that combines the strength and benefits of algae with humic matter. This has led to a greater source of carbon for increased microbial population and density, enhancing root development and crop yields in the process.
