The Dirty Work: Asparagus Case Study

BioFlora Improves Germination Time for More Effective Seeding
Most commercial asparagus cultivars take 30 – 45 days to germinate when direct seeding, with some variances, due to water quality, soil characteristics and temperature. BioFlora® designed a trial to better understand the potential influence of several BioFlora products on asparagus seed germination. The objective was to reduce plant germination time. BioFlora Seaweed Creme®, GOgreen® and Fulvex® were applied separately at a concentration of 1:100 against a control, utilizing water. Our ProductsBioFlora Seaweed Creme is an organic, hand-harvested, sun-dried Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed (at type of marine algae). This seaweed is homogenized, processed at ambien temperatures then enhanced with our patented ionic minerals. This process secures all of the natural, beneficial qualities of seaweed. GOgreen is a matrix of freshwater green and yellow-green algae that are grown and cultivated in our state-of-the-art facilities, with a patented organic process. The polysaccharides, proteins and enzymes found in this algal solution combine with one another to help growers realize improved crop production. Fulvexhumates is our enhanced fulvic acid product derived from from selected mined sites throughout the United States. It acts as a chelating supplement that transports trace minerals directly to cell metabolic sites. All BioFlora products reduced germination time against the control. The control results reflected conventional planting methods.   The products GOgreen & Fulvex were the most effective, reaching an 80% germination rate at 1/3 the conventional time. BioFlora identified the first 15 days from planting as the critical stage to determine successful germination. This is in comparison to the 30 – 45 days traditional growers will wait to decide if replanting is necessary.
